Advent Starts Sunday!

Advent is about God’s coming kingdom, breaking into the world. God’s kingdom doesn’t come like a sunrise, gradually lighting everything up, but through signs and moments that pull us towards that great light. – N.T. Wright

I don’t know about you, but we are in that season where everything is fast and furious until the end of the year. It feels like there are 49 new projects, tests, shows, and parties for each child. Then you add in trying to buy the “perfect” gift for your nieces and nephews. I also wonder about what to get my parents and my in-laws. It’s also the end of my health insurance year, so have I used all of my benefits, and can I get everything scheduled before January 1? Maybe you’re enrolling in Medicare – and if you are, open enrollment for that ends in a few days. Oh, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but property taxes are also due. 😬

I mean, I am tired, just listing it all. But you know what else comes with this time of year? Advent! Advent is our annual reminder that we are waiting for the return of Jesus. Now, if you’re living in 2024, you’ve likely looked up and asked, “Jesus, when are you coming?” at least once this year. The waiting is real.

Advent is a season of reflection, preparation, and expectation of the true gift that we’re celebrating—the gift of God’s only son, Jesus. Advent is a Latin word that means “coming” or “arrival.” It begins on December 1 this year and ends on Christmas Eve. It is a season full of expectation, longing, and hope. Need more information on Advent, check out this post from 2022.

Thelo Women, this year we will be reading the She Reads Truth 2024 Advent study, The Dawn of Redeeming Grace. You’ll receive your study on Sunday as part of your Christmas gift from me. You’ll have to get started on Sunday, too, but I look forward to chatting with you about it over breakfast on Saturday, December 21!
