You can look at your job as your assignment or your ministry. In fact, in Ephesians 4:12 the Bible says our job is to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. Every Christian is a full-time, God-equipped minister in this world. Every Christian is called to be a light, wherever we are assigned.
Your paying job may not be as a pastor or in a church, but I agree with Jon Bloom who says “Christians who serve in “secular” vocations are the ones who do most of the ministry and kingdom-expansion work that happens in the world” (Christian, Your Job Is a Ministry Job, 2015). We are not all called to the vocation of ministry, but we are defintely all called to be servants of God and build up His body.
So, go forth, and let your light shine at work today, whatever your assignment is. Whereever it may be – on campus, at home, at church, or driving the school bus. We are called to minister. Let’s go make God look great (but ask for His help first).
